Linga Longa Farm

We did a long weekend road trip to Port Macquarie, I had a cooking show booking on the Saturday afternoon so we thought we would travel up together and enjoy the region for a couple of days. It is always a treat for me to travel with Mr G, I get to combine the business of cooking with a bit of pleasure, which usually means more food, farmers' markets and fishing.
Saturday morning we visited the Hastings Farmers Market at Wauchope and although we just went for a look, I managed to fill the car boot with some delicious local produce to bring home.
On Sunday for lunch on our way back home to Sydney, we took a slight detour inland to the lovely town of Wingham to drop in on a farmer friend Greg. Linga Longa Farm is owned by Lauren and Greg Newell, who we met at our local farmers market in Sydney, they raise Hereford Beef cattle.
'Linga Longa Farm is set in the picturesque Manning Valley located 4 hours north of Sydney. The Comboyne Mountain range provides a scenic backdrop to this beautiful property. The gorgeous creek gently meanders throughout the paddocks providing our cattle with pristine clean drinking water. Through best farm practices our lush pastures are disease free providing ample green feed all year round. Our cattle are happy stress-free animals – equating to tender and juicy beef for your family.'
We have been buying Greg's grass fed Hereford beef in Sydney for the past two years from either The Beaches Market every Friday or Eveleigh Farmers Market every Saturday, you can also order their beef direct from the farm online. A great way to support our Australian farmers for their dedication and persistence.
It was really special to spend time with Greg and Lauren, to share a delicious lunch of steak(of course) and salads and to see where the beef cattle we eat at our table, are raised with such passion and care for the animal's well being. We even met Harry the prize bull, saw new calves feeding and 'just hatched' chicks.
Lauren breeds silver and gold Brahma Chickens, of which we own two silver Brahmas amongst our suburban hens, so it was nice to meet 'our girls' parents!
Lauren is also building a gorgeous garden, her challenge it cannot require water, it has been a work in progress for the past five years and in another five years is going to be very well established and quite magnificent.
Linga Longa Farm is a beautiful place to visit to see the cycle of life and the journey of our food literally from paddock to plate. They also have a farm stay cottage available, which means when you see the beauty of the farm in the following images, you can go and stay and see for yourself!
