Growers Market Pyrmont

One of my life mottos is 'do something for the first time'!
This morning we did just that and visited the Growers Market at Pyrmont.
Although we live in Sydney, with Pyrmont only forty five minutes drive from our home (and this market has been operating for sixteen years now) we had never been before!

October is Good Food Month in Sydney, Australia's largest food festival offering a range of amazing food experiences, including Sydney Night Noodle Markets, Hats Off Dinners, Let's Do Lunch and Good Dinners Under $30. Full program available online.
'in it's sixteenth year, we feel very proud of how it has grown to become part of the fabric of Sydney life, spreading beyond the CBD to Greater Sydney and regional NSW, showcasing the great talents of our chefs, cooks, food producers, mixologists, baristas and more.'
Joanna Savill / Festival Director

To kick off Good Food Month and our long weekend at home in Sydney, we spent the morning wandering through over seventy stalls at the Growers Market in Pyrmont Bay Park, sprawled along the foreshore of Pyrmont Bay. Wonderful to see some old friends and new faces selling their wares, against the stunning wooden piers and waterscape.

Celebrity chefs cooking at the Market Chef Stage, amongst the flurry of the stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, sustainably sourced pork, venison, poultry, angus beef, olive oils, cheese, smallgoods, honey, mushrooms, wines, coffee, hand churned cultured butter and a delicious array of breakfast and lunch choices from the hot food stalls and bakeries. The Sydney city skyline looming in the background.

We left satisfied inside and out, our trolley laden with goodness, my heart glad to have again rewarded those who work so hard to grow and produce our food by simply buying their goods. How I love to chat to them of their passion and produce, everyone has a story to tell, from harvesting garlic to making chocolate. We left with armfuls of new season garlic, hand churned butter, venison osso bucco, the sweetest of cucumbers for pickling, pasture raised leg ham and some divine Bolivian grown, Australian made dark chocolate.

So if you find yourself in Pyrmont, the market runs the first Saturday of the month from 7am -12 noon.
Parking is available in The Star opposite for a discounted rate of $10. (You need to get your parking ticket stamped at The Sydney Morning Herald stand in the market to receive the discount.)
In the meantime take a look at what the Good Food Month festival has to offer you and get out there in the city of Sydney and do something new, something for the first time, something about good food!
